From a very early age it was destined for Jo Garner to have a career in esthetics.  “When I was a teen, I used to spend hours in my room applying different make-up looks and later, in college, I took classes in photography.” she recalls.  While attending college in her home state of New Jersey, Jo took a holiday break in Hawaii.  After falling in love with the beautiful islands of aloha, Jo courageously decided to move to Honolulu.  “When I first arrived in Waikiki, I worked as a glamour photographer, but I wanted to expand my career and do more in esthetics.” she says, so I decided to move to Maui to attend Skin Care College and become an Esthetician.”  After achieving her graduate license, Jo continued to work in Maui for eight years as a Skin Care Therapist at such spas as the renowned Four Seasons Spa & Resort in Wailea, Maui, building a very steady clientele, continuing her post graduate education and racking up hours and hours of hands-on experience learning the business of esthetics inside and out.

Eventually island fever set in and she was on the move again, this time with her sights on conquering the spa industry in Manhattan.  Now in her ninth year working in the spa and wellness industry in New York City, Jo has become an accomplished Skin Care Therapist as well as an   Educator of Esthetics mastering both Eastern and Western philosophies of spa therapy.  While in Manhattan,  Jo had the opportunity to teach esthetics at both the post-graduate level with the prestigious International Dermal Institute and at the pre-graduate level with a New York City state board school.

Most recently, she took her career into a most challenging direction as the Director of Skin Care for Oasis Day Spas in Manhattan, overseeing four multimillion dollar spa locations with a staff of over 30 Skin Care and Body Therapists for four years.  As a spa director, Jo has worked on all levels of spa business development from general management to sales and marketing.  The knowledge that Jo has gained from her experiences of working the daily operations of a spa of such caliber is priceless.

At this stage of her professional career, it is Jo’s goal to share her knowledge and experience with others in the spa industry to help them succeed in their careers and businesses.  “I want to share what I have learned over the past 16 years in the spa business, all of my mistakes and breakthroughs.” she states.  The mission of theSpaBiz.com is to bring to life a supportive and educational environment for spa managers, directors, technicians and small spa business owners through specific and informative articles, on-line partnerships and individual or team coaching.  Think of theSpaBiz.com as a mentor to the spa and health and wellness industry.
